Meetings — record, transcribe & ask AI
The Meetings tab turns any conversation — a call, an interview, a stand‑up — into a live transcript you can search, ask questions about, and share. TalkWriter labels each speaker automatically, keeps recording while you put your phone down, and emails you a tidy recap the moment the meeting ends.
Available on: iOS 16 and later · Android 10 and later
Quick checks
Before you record:
- You're signed in with the same account you use everywhere else, so your meetings sync across devices.
- You're online. Transcription runs in the cloud and needs Wi‑Fi or cellular.
- Microphone is allowed. TalkWriter asks the first time you record — tap Allow.
- (Android) Battery isn't restricting TalkWriter, so recording survives a locked screen — set it to Unrestricted. See Set up TalkWriter on Android.
How to record a meeting
- Open the Meetings tab from the bottom navigation.
- Tap the amber + button to start a new recording.
- Speak naturally. A live transcript builds on screen as people talk, with automatic speaker labels (Speaker 1, Speaker 2…).
- Tap stop when you're done. The meeting is saved to your list automatically.
It keeps recording in the background
You can leave the app, lock the phone, or switch to another app — TalkWriter keeps capturing audio:
- On iOS, a Live Activity shows on your lock screen and in the Dynamic Island with the TalkWriter logo, so you always know a recording is running.
- On Android, a foreground‑service notification stays in your notification shade with a live preview of the transcript.
It takes you straight back into the recording, so you can check the transcript or stop the meeting without hunting for the app.
Rename your speakers
TalkWriter can't know people's names, so it labels voices generically — Speaker 1, Speaker 2, and so on. To make the transcript readable:
- Tap a speaker label in the transcript.
- Type the person's name (for example, Priya or Client).
- Every line from that voice updates to the new name — past and future.
The two tabs in a saved meeting
Open any meeting from the list and you'll see two tabs:
- Transcript — the full, speaker‑labelled record of what was said. Scroll, read, and copy from here.
- Q&A — ask the AI anything about the meeting (see below).
Q&A — ask the AI about your meeting
The Q&A tab lets you interrogate the conversation instead of re‑reading it:
- Open a meeting and tap Q&A.
- Tap a suggestion chip — What was discussed?, Key topics, Action items, or Write a summary — or type your own question.
- The answer streams in as it's generated.
- Copy a single answer, or copy the whole conversation to share elsewhere.
Every question you ask and every answer you get is saved with the meeting and reloads the next time you open Q&A — so you can pick up where you left off, even days later.
Your email recap
When a meeting ends, TalkWriter emails a recap to your account email automatically. The recap includes:
- A summary of the conversation,
- The key topics covered,
- The full transcript.
It's the fastest way to forward notes to yourself or a colleague without opening the app.
The meetings list
Back on the Meetings tab, each saved meeting shows an at‑a‑glance preview:
- A "Speaker N: …" snippet of what was said,
- The total word count and speaker count.
Tap any meeting to open its Transcript and Q&A.
Tips
- Place the phone where it can hear everyone. Put it flat in the middle of the table, mic end unobstructed, away from laptop fans or air vents.
- Name speakers early. Renaming once near the start keeps the whole transcript — and your email recap — easy to read.
- Keep the screen on if you can. Background recording is reliable, but on Android, setting battery to Unrestricted prevents the system from pausing long sessions.
- Ask follow‑ups in Q&A. Because your questions are saved, you can keep refining ("summarise just the budget part") over multiple visits.
FAQs
Does it keep recording in the background? Yes. You can lock your phone or switch apps and TalkWriter keeps going. iOS shows a Live Activity on the lock screen and Dynamic Island; Android shows a foreground‑service notification with a live transcript preview.
Are my questions saved? Yes. Everything in the Q&A tab — your questions and the AI's answers — is saved with the meeting and reloads whenever you reopen it.
Where's my email recap? TalkWriter emails it to your account email when the meeting ends. It contains the summary, key topics, and full transcript. If you don't see it, check your spam folder and confirm the email on your account is correct.
Can I rename speakers? Yes. Tap any Speaker 1 / Speaker 2 label in the transcript and type a real name — every line from that voice updates.
Do meetings sync across my devices? Yes. Meetings sync with your account, so a meeting recorded on your phone appears on your other signed‑in devices.
Is there a length or usage limit? Limits depend on your plan. See the Free plan and Pro plan for the details.
