TalkTone — rewrite in any style on mobile

TalkTone takes text you've already written and rewrites it in the style and tone you choose — turn a rushed message into something Professional, soften a reply to sound Friendly, or trim a paragraph down to Concise. It works on selected text right inside the TalkWriter keyboard, so you can polish what you wrote in any app.

Available on: iOS 16+ (iPhone & iPad) and Android 10+

Quick checks

Before you start, make sure:

  • The TalkWriter keyboard is set up — see iPhone setup or Android setup.
  • You're signed in and online. TalkTone rewriting runs securely in the cloud.
  • You have some text to rewrite. TalkTone works on text you select — it doesn't write from scratch.

How to rewrite text from the keyboard

  1. In any app, type or dictate the text you want to improve.
  2. Select the text you want to rewrite (drag the selection handles, or tap‑and‑hold and choose Select All).
  3. With the TalkWriter keyboard showing, tap Rewrite in the top bar.
  4. Choose a Tone, a Style, and an Intensity. Tone sets the feeling (for example Professional or Friendly), Style shapes the form (for example Concise), and Intensity controls how strong the change is — light touch or full makeover.
  5. Tap Apply. TalkWriter replaces your selected text with the rewritten version.

That's it — the new wording drops straight into the text field, ready to send.

Start subtle

If you're not sure how a style will read, set Intensity low first. You can always select the text again and rewrite with a stronger intensity until it sounds right.

Long selections on iPhone

On iOS, very long selections can't always be read directly by the keyboard (an Apple platform limit). When that happens, TalkWriter shows a "Copy the text" guide:

  1. Copy your selection (tap Copy in the selection menu) so TalkWriter can read it.
  2. TalkWriter resumes automatically and rewrites the copied text.
  3. Apply the result as usual.

This only appears for unusually long selections — short and medium passages rewrite without copying.

Set a default style

Open the TalkTone tab (bottom navigation) to set your default Tone, Style, and Intensity. Those defaults pre‑fill the Rewrite panel every time, so a single tap of Rewrite → Apply gives you the look you use most. You can still change them per rewrite from the keyboard.

Tips

  • TalkTone rewrites — it doesn't invent. It rephrases the meaning of your text; it won't add facts you didn't write.
  • Rewrite in passes. Make it Concise first, then Professional — small selections give the cleanest results.
  • Pair it with dictation. Dictate a rough draft, then select it and rewrite into a polished tone.
  • Works in any text field that allows selection — Messages, Mail, Slack, Notes, and more.

FAQs

Does TalkTone change the meaning of my text? No. TalkTone rephrases your wording into a different tone or style while keeping your meaning. It rewrites what you wrote rather than generating new ideas.

Can I undo a rewrite? Yes. Use your app's normal undo (or shake to undo on iPhone) right after applying, and the original text comes back. You can also rewrite the result again to nudge it further.

Which styles and tones are available? There are 30+ to choose from, including Professional, Friendly, Concise, and Confident, plus many more for different situations. Open the Rewrite panel or the TalkTone tab to browse the full list.

Can I rewrite text I didn't dictate? Yes. TalkTone works on any selected text, no matter how it got there — typed, pasted, or dictated.

Is TalkTone available on the Free plan? Some TalkTone features are limited on Free and unlocked on Pro. See the Pro plan for details.
