Text Not Pasting
Symptom
You dictate successfully (the pill shows your words), but when you release the Fn key, no text appears in your application.
Quick Fix
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, remove TalkWriter, then re-add it.
Step-by-Step Diagnostic
✅ Step 1: Check Accessibility Permission
TalkWriter needs Accessibility access to paste text. This is the most common cause.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility
- Look for TalkWriter in the list
- If it is not there, click the + button and add TalkWriter from your Applications folder
- If it is there but the toggle is off, turn it on
- If it is there and on, remove it (click the − button), then re-add it
✅ Step 2: Check That Your Cursor Is in a Text Field
TalkWriter pastes into whatever text field is focused. If no text field is active, the paste has nowhere to go.
- Click directly into a text field in your target app
- Make sure you see a blinking cursor
- Try dictating again
✅ Step 3: Test with a Simple App
Rule out app-specific issues:
- Open TextEdit (built into macOS)
- Create a new document
- Click in the document
- Hold Fn and dictate a few words
- If text appears in TextEdit, the issue is specific to your other app
✅ Step 4: Check Clipboard
- Dictate a short phrase
- Open TextEdit and press Cmd+V
- If your dictated text pastes, TalkWriter is working but the paste action is being blocked by the target app
- If nothing pastes, TalkWriter may not be copying to clipboard correctly — try restarting the app
✅ Step 5: Restart TalkWriter
- Click the TalkWriter icon in the menu bar
- Click Quit
- Reopen TalkWriter from your Applications folder
✅ Step 6: Restart Your Mac
Some Accessibility permission changes require a restart to take effect:
- Save your work
- Restart your Mac from the Apple menu
- Open TalkWriter and test again

FAQ
Why does this happen? macOS sometimes revokes Accessibility permission after updates or security changes. Re-granting it fixes the issue.
Does this affect all apps? Usually yes, since Accessibility permission is system-wide. If only one app is affected, the issue may be specific to that app's text field implementation.
