TalkWriter on Mobile — Overview
TalkWriter brings fast, accurate voice‑to‑text and AI writing to your phone. Speak naturally in any app — messages, email, notes, search — and TalkWriter turns your voice into clean, polished text. This page explains how the mobile apps are organized, what's the same as the Mac app, and what's genuinely different on a phone.

How the app is laid out
The mobile app has a bottom tab bar with five tabs:
- Meetings — record and review conversations, with transcript, speakers, and AI Q&A.
- Dictation — your dictation history and the in‑app dictate screen.
- Dictionary — custom words and pronunciations TalkWriter should always get right.
- Snippets — short triggers that expand into longer text.
- TalkTone — choose the default writing style and tone.
The keyboard is separate from the app: you enable it once in your phone's settings, then switch to it inside any other app to dictate or rewrite text there.
What's different from the Mac app
TalkWriter on mobile does everything the Mac app does, but a phone is a different device — here's what changes:
- No floating pill. On Mac, a pill overlay floats over your work. On a phone there's no overlapping‑window concept, so dictation status lives inside the keyboard (the waveform turns green while it's listening) and, during meetings, on your lock screen (iOS Live Activity / Android notification).
- You switch keyboards instead of pressing Fn. On Mac you hold the Fn key to dictate. On mobile you tap the 🌐 globe key (iOS) or hold the spacebar (Android) to switch to the TalkWriter keyboard, then tap its mic.
- Permissions matter more. iOS and Android sandbox apps tightly. You'll grant Full Access (iOS keyboard) or Microphone + an input method (Android) once during setup — see your platform's guide.
- Dictation capture differs by platform. On Android, the keyboard records your voice directly. On iOS, the system blocks keyboards from using the microphone, so TalkWriter captures audio through the main app and inserts the result back — you'll notice a brief hand‑off.
