Download & install TalkWriter on mobile

TalkWriter is a free download on both iPhone/iPad and Android. Installing takes a minute, and once you're signed in the keyboard is just one more step away. This guide covers getting the app, your first launch, and keeping it up to date.

Get TalkWriter​

  • iPhone & iPad: download from the App Store. Requires iOS 16 or later, and works on both iPhone and iPad.
  • Android: download from Google Play. Requires Android 10 or later.

Tap Get (iOS) or Install (Android) and wait for the download to finish.

Same account, every device

TalkWriter also runs on Mac. Sign in with the same account and your meetings, dictionary, snippets, and dictation history follow you everywhere. See Sign in to TalkWriter on mobile.

First launch​

  1. Open TalkWriter from your home screen.
  2. Sign in with Apple, Google, or email. Your account unlocks AI features and cloud sync — see Sign in to TalkWriter on mobile for the details.
  3. Explore the tabs. The bottom bar has five: Meetings, Dictation, Dictionary, Snippets, and TalkTone. You can record a meeting or dictate right inside the app straight away.

Enable the keyboard (separate step)​

The TalkWriter keyboard — the one you use to dictate and rewrite text in other apps — is enabled separately from installing the app. It only takes about two minutes, and each platform has its own short guide:

Why a separate step?

iOS and Android both treat keyboards as a system-level add-on you switch on yourself. Installing the app makes the keyboard available; the setup guide shows you how to turn it on and grant the one permission it needs.

Updating the app​

Keeping TalkWriter current means you get the latest dictation accuracy, TalkTone styles, and fixes.

  • iOS: the App Store updates apps automatically by default. To update now, open the App Store, tap your profile picture, and look for TalkWriter under available updates.
  • Android: open Google Play, tap your profile picture → Manage apps & device, and update TalkWriter if it's listed. Auto-updates are on by default.

FAQs​

How much storage does TalkWriter need? The app itself is small. Most of your data — meetings, transcripts, history — lives in the cloud and syncs to your account, so it doesn't fill up your phone. Audio you're actively recording uses temporary space while a meeting is in progress.

Which devices are supported? Any iPhone or iPad on iOS 16+, and any Android phone on Android 10+. For a full picture of what each platform can do, see the Mobile overview.

Do I need to install the keyboard from a separate download? No. The keyboard comes bundled with the app. You just enable it in your phone's settings using the setup guide for your platform above.
