Dictionary & Snippets on mobile

Two tabs help TalkWriter sound like you: Dictionary teaches it words and names to always get right, and Snippets turns short triggers into longer text you'd otherwise retype. Both live in the bottom tab bar, and both sync across every device signed in to your account.

Dictionary — words TalkWriter always gets right​

The Dictionary is your personal vocabulary. Add the names, brand terms, jargon, or unusual spellings TalkWriter should recognize when you dictate, so it stops guessing and starts getting them right every time.

How to add a word​

  1. Open the Dictionary tab in the bottom nav.
  2. Tap add (the + button).
  3. Type the word, name, or spelling exactly as you want it written.
  4. Save.

That's it — next time you dictate that term, TalkWriter writes it the way you taught it.

Great candidates for the dictionary

People's names, company and product names, technical terms, acronyms, and anything TalkWriter keeps mis-hearing. If a word comes out wrong more than once, add it.

Snippets — short triggers, long text​

A snippet is a short trigger that expands into a longer block of text. Type or dictate the trigger and TalkWriter drops in the full text — handy for email sign-offs, addresses, replies you send often, or boilerplate you'd rather not retype.

How to create a snippet​

  1. Open the Snippets tab in the bottom nav.
  2. Tap add (the + button).
  3. Enter a trigger — the short text you'll type to fire the snippet.
  4. Enter the expansion — the full text it turns into.
  5. Save.
Keep triggers distinctive

Choose triggers you'd never type by accident — short and a little unusual works best, so a snippet only fires when you mean it.

Everything syncs​

Add a word or snippet on your iPhone and it's there on your Mac and Android too. Your Dictionary and Snippets travel with your account, so you set them up once and they work everywhere you dictate.

Tips​

  • Build as you go. The easiest time to add a word is right after TalkWriter gets it wrong — open the Dictionary and fix it for good.
  • Use snippets for anything repetitive. Signatures, common replies, mailing addresses, and disclaimers are perfect candidates.
  • Edit anytime. Open the entry from its tab to change or remove it; the update syncs to your other devices.

FAQs​

Where do my dictionary words and snippets apply? Everywhere you dictate or type with TalkWriter — in the keyboard across your apps and in the in-app dictation screen.

Do these sync across my devices? Yes. Dictionary and Snippets are part of cloud sync, so they stay consistent across Mac, iPhone, and Android when you're signed in to the same account.

My new word still comes out wrong. Make sure you're online (transcription runs in the cloud) and that you saved the entry exactly as you want it written. Give it a moment to sync, then try dictating again.

Can I edit or delete an entry? Yes — open it from the Dictionary or Snippets tab to change or remove it. The change syncs to your other devices.

What's the difference between the two? The Dictionary corrects how individual words and names are recognized and spelled. Snippets expand a short trigger into a longer chunk of text.
