Manage TalkWriter notifications on iPhone
TalkWriter keeps notifications minimal — you'll mostly see them around meetings. This page explains what TalkWriter sends, how to manage it in iOS Settings, and how the lock‑screen Live Activity works while you record.
Available on: iOS 16 and later · iPhone and iPad
What TalkWriter sends
- Meeting recording Live Activity. While a meeting is recording, TalkWriter shows a Live Activity on your lock screen and in the Dynamic Island (on supported iPhones), with the TalkWriter logo so you always know recording is active. This isn't a typical alert — it's a persistent, glanceable status.
- Recap ready. When a meeting ends, TalkWriter emails a recap (summary, key topics, and full transcript) to your account email. If notifications are enabled, you may also get a heads‑up that your recap is ready.
That's it — TalkWriter doesn't spam you with marketing pushes.
How to manage them
You control TalkWriter's notifications like any other app:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap Notifications → TalkWriter.
- Turn Allow Notifications on or off, and choose where they appear — Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners.
- Adjust Sounds and Badges to taste.
Even if you mute TalkWriter's banners, leaving the Live Activity enabled is handy — it's the clearest signal that a meeting is still recording, right on your lock screen.
Focus modes
If you use a Focus (Do Not Disturb, Work, Sleep, etc.), it can silence app notifications.
- To still receive TalkWriter alerts during a Focus, go to Settings → Focus, pick the Focus, and add TalkWriter under Allowed Apps (or People & Apps).
- A meeting Live Activity generally stays visible on the lock screen even in Focus, so you won't lose track of an active recording.
The Live Activity & Dynamic Island during meetings
When you start recording a meeting:
- On iPhones with the Dynamic Island, recording status appears there — tap and hold to see more, or tap to jump back into the meeting.
- On the lock screen, the Live Activity shows the TalkWriter logo and that a recording is in progress.
- Recording keeps running in the background, so you can lock your phone or use other apps while the meeting captures audio.

FAQs
Will TalkWriter keep recording if I lock my phone? Yes. Recording continues in the background and the Live Activity stays on your lock screen / Dynamic Island so you know it's still going.
I turned off notifications — will recording still work? Yes. Recording doesn't depend on notification permissions. Turning notifications off just hides the alerts; the Live Activity and the background recording continue.
Why didn't I get my recap? The recap is emailed to your account email when a meeting ends. Check that inbox (and spam). Make sure you're signed in with the right account and that the meeting actually finished.
Can I get notifications during a Focus mode? Yes — add TalkWriter to the Focus's Allowed Apps list in Settings → Focus.
Still stuck?
- Check Settings → Notifications → TalkWriter and your active Focus settings.
