Live Test
TalkTone requires TalkWriter Pro or Enterprise. Upgrade to Pro →
Live Test lets you preview how TalkTone will transform your text -- without starting a real dictation session. Type or paste any text, adjust your settings, and instantly see the output. It is the best way to experiment with modes, styles, and custom instructions before committing.
Why Use Live Test?
| Reason | Explanation |
|---|---|
| ✅ Experiment without risk | Try different settings without wasting a dictation |
| ✅ Compare styles side by side | Quickly switch styles and see the difference |
| ✅ Test custom instructions | Verify your rules work before relying on them |
| ✅ Learn how TalkTone works | Understand the impact of each setting visually |
| ✅ Share settings with teammates | Find the perfect combo and share the config |
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Open TalkTone Settings
Click the TalkTone icon in the toolbar. The TalkTone settings panel will open.
Step 2: Switch to the Live Test Tab
At the top of the TalkTone panel, click the Live Test tab. You will see:
- A text input area on the left (or top)
- A transformed output area on the right (or bottom)
- Your current TalkTone settings displayed above
Step 3: Enter Your Test Text
Type or paste sample text into the input area. Use text that is similar to what you will actually dictate. For example:
hey I wanted to let you know the project is almost done we just need to finish the testing and then we can ship it probably by end of next week
Use real text that represents your actual use case. Testing with "hello world" will not show you how TalkTone handles your real dictation patterns.
Step 4: Adjust Your Settings
While staying in the Live Test tab, change any combination of:
- Mode -- Switch between Email, Chat, Creative, Document, Social, Code
- Style -- Pick a specific voice within the mode
- Formatting -- Toggle between Casual, Neutral, Formal
- Intensity -- Slide between Light, Medium, Full Rewrite
- Custom Instructions -- Add or edit personal rules
Step 5: View the Transformed Output
The output area updates to show how your text looks with the current settings. Review the result:
- Does it match the tone you want?
- Is the formatting appropriate?
- Did your custom instructions take effect?
- Is the intensity level right?
Step 6: Iterate and Refine
Not happy with the result? Adjust your settings and the output updates. Repeat until you find the perfect combination.
Step 7: Apply Your Settings
Once you are satisfied, close the Live Test tab. Your settings are already saved and will apply to your next dictation session.
What to Test
Here are practical test scenarios to try:
| Test Scenario | Sample Input Text |
|---|---|
| Work email | "hey just wanted to follow up on the proposal I sent last week let me know if you need anything else" |
| Slack message | "the build is broken can someone look at it when they get a chance" |
| Blog intro | "so today I want to talk about why remote work is actually harder than people think" |
| Meeting notes | "we decided to push the launch to march and sarah will handle the marketing plan" |
| Tweet | "just shipped the biggest update of the year thirty new features and a complete redesign" |
| Code comment | "this function validates the user input and throws an error if the email format is wrong" |
Tips for Effective Testing
- Test with realistic text -- Use sentences you actually dictate, not placeholder text
- Try extreme settings -- Set intensity to Full Rewrite to see the maximum transformation, then dial it back
- Compare two styles -- Switch between styles quickly to see which one fits better
- Test your custom instructions -- Add a rule and verify it appears in the output
- Test edge cases -- Try very short input (5 words) and very long input (a full paragraph)
Live Test uses a small amount of your TalkTone processing quota. On Pro plans, this is generous and you are unlikely to hit a limit. On trial accounts, be mindful of usage.
