Privacy Mode

Privacy Mode is an extra layer of protection for users who dictate sensitive content. When enabled, TalkWriter skips all server-side text processing, so your dictated words are never handled beyond basic transcription.

In short: Privacy Mode gives you raw transcription with zero server-side text handling. The tradeoff is that AI-powered features like TalkTone are turned off.

How to Enable Privacy Mode​

For Individual Users (Pro Plan)​

  1. Open TalkWriter
  2. Click the gear icon to open Settings
  3. Go to the Privacy tab
  4. Toggle Privacy Mode to on
  5. Close Settings — Privacy Mode is now active

For Entire Organizations (Enterprise Plan)​

  1. Log into the Admin Portal at admin.talkwriter.ai
  2. Go to Security → Policies
  3. Toggle Enforce Privacy Mode to on
  4. All team members will have Privacy Mode forced on — they cannot disable it

  • Legal — Dictating privileged attorney-client communications
  • Finance — Dictating notes containing non-public financial information
  • Government — Dictating content subject to data sovereignty requirements
  • Personal — Any time you want maximum privacy for sensitive content

How to Tell If Privacy Mode Is Active​

When Privacy Mode is on:

  • The TalkWriter dictation pill shows a shield icon
  • The TalkTone selector is grayed out in Settings
  • A "Privacy Mode" label appears in the bottom-left of the Settings window

FAQ​

Does Privacy Mode affect accuracy? No. Speech-to-text accuracy is the same with or without Privacy Mode. Only AI polish features are disabled.

Can I toggle Privacy Mode on and off quickly? Yes. You can toggle it in Settings at any time. The change takes effect on your next dictation session.

Is Privacy Mode available on the Free plan? No. Privacy Mode requires TalkWriter Pro ($9.99/month) or Enterprise ($29/month).

Does the Enterprise admin override my preference? Yes. If your organization enforces Privacy Mode, you cannot turn it off.
