TalkWriter's transliteration mode (commonly called "Banglish mode") supports 10 languages. Each language converts spoken words into romanized Latin text -- the way speakers of that language naturally type in messaging apps.

Language Details​

Bengali (Banglish)​

The flagship language of TalkWriter's transliteration mode. Banglish is the most tested and optimized language.

  • Common use: Facebook messaging, WhatsApp, texts, social media
  • Example: "Ami kal Dhaka jabo, tumi ashbe naki?"

Hindi (Hinglish)​

Romanized Hindi is one of the most widely used transliteration formats globally.

  • Speakers worldwide: 600+ million
  • Diaspora: US, UK, Canada, Middle East, Southeast Asia
  • Common use: WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter, Bollywood discussions
  • Example: "Kal movie dekhne chalte hain, kya bolte ho?"

Arabic (Arabizi)​

Arabic chat alphabet used extensively in Middle East and North Africa messaging.

  • Diaspora: Europe, Americas, Southeast Asia
  • Common use: WhatsApp, social media, informal messaging
  • Example: "Yalla nrooh el matar, el tayara ba3d sa3a"
  • Note: Arabizi sometimes uses numbers for sounds that don't exist in Latin (3 = ain, 7 = ha)

Urdu (Roman Urdu)​

Romanized Urdu, widely used in Pakistan and among the Pakistani diaspora.

Tamil (Tanglish)​

Romanized Tamil used by Tamil speakers in India, Sri Lanka, and globally.

Telugu (Tenglish)​

Romanized Telugu used by Telugu speakers in India and abroad.

Tagalog (Taglish)​

Mixed Tagalog-English romanization common in the Philippines and Filipino diaspora.

Malay (Manglish)​

Romanized Malay with English mix, used in Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei.

Turkish (Turkce Latin)​

Turkish already uses Latin script, but spoken Turkish often differs from formal written Turkish. TalkWriter captures the natural spoken form.

Persian (Finglish)​

Romanized Persian (Farsi) used widely by Iranian diaspora.

Setting Up Your Language​

  1. Open Settings > Language
  2. Set Speech Language to your language (do NOT use Auto)
  3. Enable Transliteration mode
  4. Start dictating
Critical: Do Not Use Auto

Auto language detection does not work with transliteration. You must manually select your language. See Auto vs Manual for why.
