Symptom
You cannot sign into TalkWriter. The login screen hangs, shows an error, or the browser window does not open.
Quick Fix
Quit TalkWriter, reopen it, and try signing in again. If using Google OAuth, make sure pop-ups are not blocked in your browser.
Step-by-Step Diagnostic
✅ Step 1: Identify Your Login Method
TalkWriter supports two login methods:

✅ Step 2: Fix Google OAuth Issues
If the Google sign-in window does not open or gets stuck:
- Make sure your default browser is working (try opening any website)
- Check that pop-ups are not blocked in your browser settings
- If the browser opened but the page is blank, try a different browser as your default
- Clear your browser cookies for
accounts.google.comand try again
✅ Step 3: Fix Email/Password Issues
If you are getting "invalid credentials":
- Make sure you are using the email address you registered with
- Check for typos in your password (Caps Lock, extra spaces)
- Click Forgot Password to reset your password
- Check your email (including spam folder) for the reset link

Corrupted login tokens can prevent sign-in:
- Quit TalkWriter
- Open Finder and press Cmd+Shift+G
- Go to:
~/Library/Application Support/TalkWriter - Delete the file named
auth.json(or the entire folder if needed) - Reopen TalkWriter and try signing in again

TalkWriter needs an internet connection to authenticate:
- Open a browser and visit talkwriter.ai
- If the website does not load, fix your internet connection first
- If you are on a corporate network, check that

If your organization uses TalkWriter Enterprise with SSO:
- You may need to sign in through your company's identity provider, not Google or email

Can I switch from Google to email login? Contact support to add an email/password login to your existing Google-authenticated account.
I never received the verification email. What do I do? Check your spam folder. If it is not there, try signing up again. If the problem persists, contact support.
Does TalkWriter support Apple ID sign-in? Not currently. We support Google OAuth and email/password.
