Slack & Discord

TalkWriter makes messaging faster by letting you dictate messages instead of typing them. Combined with TalkTone, you can match the right tone for any conversation.

Quick Messaging Workflow

  1. Click the message input box in Slack or Discord
  2. Hold Fn and say your message
  3. Release Fn — your message appears in the input box
  4. Review the text before pressing Enter to send

Always review your dictated text before sending. You can edit it just like typed text.

TalkTone for Messaging

TalkTone polishes your dictated speech into the right style. Here is how different styles work in a messaging context:

TalkTone StyleInput (what you say)Output (what gets pasted)
Casual"hey can you take a look at the pull request when you get a chance""Hey, can you take a look at the PR when you get a chance?"
Professional"I wanted to follow up on the proposal we discussed yesterday""Following up on yesterday's proposal discussion."
Concise"so basically the deployment went fine and everything is working""Deployment successful. Everything operational."
Friendly"thanks for helping out with that bug it was really tricky""Thanks for your help with that bug -- it was a tricky one!"

Slack Tips

  • Channels — Click the message box in any channel, then dictate
  • Threads — Click "Reply in thread," then dictate your response
  • DMs — Same as channels, click the input box and dictate
  • Editing — After dictating, use arrow keys to navigate and edit before sending
  • Emoji reactions — Dictate "thumbs up" and it will type the text (not the emoji). Add reactions manually.

Discord Tips

  • Text channels — Click the message box and dictate
  • Server threads — Click the thread reply box, then dictate
  • DMs — Works the same as text channels
  • Voice channels — TalkWriter can run while you are in a Discord voice call, but be aware it will pick up your voice for both Discord and dictation

FAQ

Can TalkWriter send messages automatically? No. TalkWriter only pastes text into the input box. You must press Enter to send. This is by design, so you can always review before sending.

Does it work with Slack's web and desktop apps? Yes. Both the Slack desktop app and Slack in the browser work with TalkWriter.

Can I dictate in multiple languages in Slack? Yes. Set your TalkWriter language in Settings. You can dictate in any supported language and it will paste into Slack.
