Exporting Sessions
TalkWriter makes it easy to get your dictated text out of the app. You can copy text to your clipboard, export sessions as files, or export in bulk.
Copying Session Text
The fastest way to reuse session text:
- Open Session History
- Click on the session you want
- Click the Copy to Clipboard button in the toolbar
- Paste into any application with Cmd + V
You can also select a portion of the session text and copy just that selection using Cmd + C.
Exporting a Single Session
To save a session as a file on your computer:
- Open Session History
- Click the session you want to export
- Click the Export button in the toolbar
- Choose your format:

| Markdown (.md) | Includes session metadata (date, duration, word count) as a header |
- Choose a save location and click Save

Exporting Multiple Sessions
To export several sessions at once:
- Open Session History
- Hold Cmd and click each session to select, or use Cmd + A to select all visible sessions
- Click the Export Selected button
- Choose your format and save location
- Click Save
Multiple sessions are saved as separate files, named with their date and time.
Exporting from the Scratchpad
If you are working in the Scratchpad and want to export without going through Session History:
- Click File > Export in the Scratchpad menu
- Choose your format and save location
- Click Save
You can also use the shortcut Cmd + Shift + E for quick export.
FAQ
Can I export sessions as PDF? Not directly. Export as Markdown or plain text and convert to PDF using Preview or another tool on your Mac.
Do exported files include audio? No. TalkWriter does not store audio. Exports contain only the transcribed text and metadata.
Is there a limit to how many sessions I can export? No. Bulk export is available on all plans with no limit on the number of sessions.
