Setting Up Banglish Mode
Banglish requires TalkWriter Pro or Enterprise. Upgrade to Pro →
Setting up Banglish takes less than a minute. Follow these 4 steps exactly, and you will be dictating in Banglish right away.
Step-by-Step Setup
Step 1: Open Settings
Click the Settings icon (gear icon) in the TalkWriter toolbar, or use the keyboard shortcut.
Step 2: Set Your Speech Language
Navigate to Language settings and set your Speech Language to your target language:
- Bengali
- Hindi
- Arabic
- Urdu
- Tamil
- Telugu
- Tagalog
- Malay
- Turkish
- Persian
You must manually select your language. Do not leave it on "Auto" or "Auto-detect." Auto detection does not work with Banglish mode because the speech recognizer needs to know which language to expect. See Auto vs Manual for the technical explanation.
Step 3: Enable Transliteration
In the same Language settings panel, find the Transliteration toggle and turn it ON.
When transliteration is enabled, you will see a Banglish indicator in the toolbar confirming the mode is active.
Step 4: Start Dictating
Close the settings panel and start dictating in your chosen language. TalkWriter will:
- Hear your speech in your native language
- Process it through the speech recognition engine
- Romanize it into Latin letters
- Display the Banglish output in your text area
That is it. You are ready to go.
Verify It's Working
After setup, do a quick test:
- Click the Record button
- Say a simple sentence in your language (for Bengali, try saying a common greeting)
- Stop recording
- Check the output -- it should be romanized Latin text, NOT English translation and NOT native script

Common Setup Mistakes

Optional: Add TalkTone Styling
Once Banglish is working, you can optionally enable TalkTone to style your Banglish output. This adds formatting, tone, and structure to your transliterated text.
For example:
- Chat + Romantic -- Makes your Banglish messages more expressive and heartfelt
- Email + Formal Business -- Structures your Banglish as formal correspondence
- Social + Announcement -- Makes your Banglish posts punchy and engaging
